David Filmer LLB (Law and French Law)(Hons)

David heads up the firm's commercial department and advises on all areas of corporate and commercial work, offering a full service to Handley Brown's business clients. Equally comfortable dealing with day-to-day commercial business issues, or handling the acquisition or disposal of a group of companies, David has a wealth of experience and expertise on which to draw in order to make things run as smoothly as possible.

David has taken a fairly traditional route to the law. Having read law and French law at the University of Manchester, and the University of Burgundy in Dijon, France, David attended the College of Law in Chester. After working in the Civil Appeals Team of HM Customs and Excise, David completed his legal training with a specialist commercial firm in Manchester city centre.

Upon relocating back to the Fylde coast, David joined one of the largest North West practices as a member of their highly successful and expanding corporate and commercial team. Here David gained valuable experience acting for a wide range of clients on a variety of corporate and commercial transactions up to a value of £10m, with a particular emphasis on the healthcare sector, having acted for a number of pharmacy and care home owners. David's knowledge of French has also proved invaluable in liaising with French counsel in transactions with a cross-border element, for example where companies have had foreign subsidiaries.

In 2009, David joined Handley Brown to develop the firm's corporate and commercial practice. David acts primarily for owner managers and small-to-medium sized businesses, but also has experience in acting for public companies, management teams and lending institutions, including several high street banks and venture capital trusts.

As a deacon and charity trustee of his local church, David has responsibility for advising on areas of compliance and has experience in dealing with aspects of charity law, including drafting charity documentation and liaising with the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
